Biography

Dr. Bijan Ameri is an orthopaedic spine surgeon from Yale University with expertise in both surgical and non-surgical treatments of the neck and back. His philosophy is to use conservative options first, so patients avoid unnecessary procedures. When surgery is required after non-operative options, he can offer a broad spectrum of spine surgeries, including the most modern techniques.

A Southern California native, Dr. Ameri attended the University of California, Irvine for undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences. He then relocated to attend medical school at Touro University Nevada. After graduating at the top of his medical school class, Dr. Ameri completed residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Broward Health, a medical center with a level 1 trauma designation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He trained under faculty, including Dr. Harry Shufflebarger, a prominent scoliosis surgeon credited with many of the techniques used in modern spine surgery. Dr. Ameri served as Chief Resident and received the Resident of the Year and Professionalism in Medicine awards. He also published multiple scientific research articles, contributed book chapters, and received research grant funding.

Following his orthopaedic surgery residency, Dr. Ameri completed the combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic comprehensive spine surgery fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. His training included treatment of degenerative, traumatic, neoplastic, and infectious conditions, as well as spinal deformity and sacroiliac disease. The training spanned both a tertiary care center and a dedicated spine surgery institute, preparing him to treat a wide range of spine pathology. This scope also allows Dr. Ameri to use both conservative and surgical approaches, including endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques alongside traditional open spine surgery, depending on the individual needs of each patient.

Dr. Ameri treats both straightforward and complex neck and back disorders, often involving sport, work, and trauma-related injuries. He brings meticulous attention to detail and a focus on helping patients recover and return to their favorite activities.
